Full Moon 01

I love the full moon.  I love watching the moon in general, but the full moon is especially spectacular and always feels special.  I never lose interest, never get tired of looking at it.

I've been a moon and star watcher since I was little.  My mother would often find me standing in the back yard just looking at the sky, and if she ever wanted to know if the moon was full or when it would next be full she just asked me.  I always knew, just from watching the sky all the time.

I got older and read about the moon and learned about names for each month's moon and special foods and colors and such that go along with each one.  And I kept watching her, month after month, always there and always changing, and I loved her even more.

Over the past few years, I've participated in a couple of online full moon circles for making wishes and art and celebrating each month, and I've loved doing them and wanted to do something of my own.  I came up with the name Muse Moon a couple of years ago, but the timing didn't feel right for getting started.  I didn't want to jump into an arena that already had enough performers.  But the circles I was in have slowed down, changed formats, or gone away and opened the way for my kind of moon watching.  2015 feels like the right time for Muse Moon, so here we go.

This is going to be a sort of mini newsletter all about the moon each month.  I'll put in some of my artwork and maybe photography, some writing (maybe poetry, maybe other) and anything else that comes up for that month.  And prompts and links to guide you in creating your own full moon writing and art.  I'll get a Facebook group started for us to share what we make, too, because I love seeing what different people do with the same starting point. Creativity goes in so many directions!

Not much to say for a ROW80 check-in, but I wanted to resurface and connect a bit after a full week of being down with the flu.  I'm still very tired, and the cough is beyond annoying, but my brain is starting to come back, thank goodness!  I have been away from work for a week, and everything feels off schedule and weird.  Time to get back in the flow.

Chicken Soup

Friday I was off work not because I was sick but because I was participating in an increedible, three-day Right-Brain Business Plan workshop by Jennifer Lee via CreativeLIVE.

I have come away from the weekend with a notebook full of new ideas, things I want to change and add and do in my coaching, and a slew of new creative friends to share the journey with.  One new thing--I have decided not to go forward with the Muse Moon teleconference series--it's not the right time for it, and this decision feels amazingly good.  I have a few new things already forming that feel so exciting and vibrant!  You'll start hearing about that soon.

Now I am breathing, finishing healing and trying to do just one thing at a time (it's all so exciting I want to do it all right now!).  And now I have to figure out how my writing life and my coaching life blend, but I am realizing that my coaching life needs more goals and accountability like I have with ROW80 for my writing life.  Good stuff is coming, I just have to get a little bit of a clearer picture of what it is!

My plan for the next few days doesn't involve a lot of writing yet.  I am still sick, and I have a lot of follow-up work to do from this weekend so my focus for writing just isn't there, but it feels okay.  I know I will come back to the writing soon, so it's okay if it's not right now.  For this moment, I am going back to my tea that smells like warm muffins and a backlog of recorded TV, and I am going to dream MuseCraft further into the world.

10 Minute Muse

 

These holidays really play havoc with my sense of time.  I missed Thursday completely last week!  So I'm going to let this 10 Minute Muse stand for this week and the coming week since it's all about making a plan to help us give attention to the things we want.

 

 

List

This week, find or make a pretty piece of paper (or use plain paper and some pretty inks).  Spend a few minutes thinking of things that you really want to have in your life, things that will make you feel how you want to feel, things that will help you do the things you want to do, then start making a list of these things so you'll have an attractive, visual reminder of where you want to be going.

For me, what I want is to get comfortable with visual art--painting and drawing specifically--so that I can pick up a sketchbook or set up a canvas and put what I see in my head out into the world.  I also want to be able to go for long walks and hikes in all the beautiful places that are so near to where I live but which right now I am not strong enough to visit.  I want to spend more time using my camera both in my day-to-day life and out in those beautiful places I mentioned above.  So my game plan involves classes to help me get comfortable with painting and drawing, a regular exercise routine to help me get strong and be able to go to the places I want to visit, and maybe some photography classes or just joining in on some photography challenges.

Above you'll see the beginnings of my list.  Over the next few days I'll flesh it out more, add in specific things I want to do, classes to take, etc. to help me get where I'm going.  My one rule is that each of the things I am putting on my list makes me feel excited and enthused.  I'm not putting on anything that feels like "I have to do this."

10 Minute Muse

This week's 10 Minute Muse comes from Laurel Aston of Sparking Art.  In a group we both belong to, she shared one of her holiday traditions: "cut out paper stars, write one word on star (intention, quality to embody, etc), decorate with anything and put them up on window or some special place."

I immediately fell in love with this idea and knew that I had to make it this week's 10 Minute Muse.  I am calling mine Solstice Stars and writing on them and putting them up tomorrow, but you could quite easily make this Christmas stars, New Year's stars, or just Wishing Stars.

10 Minute Muse

Sometimes we focus on things far ahead on the horizon.  Or on things that absolutely must be done right now, right this minute.  We get caught up in the things we have to do and the things we hope to do.  And we feel cranky and out of sorts and disgruntled and displeased, but we don't have the time just now to do any of those wish list things, and we can't put aside the deadlines and other obligations.  But we still feel a desperate need for a change.  What to do?

This week's 10 Minute Muse is more doing something than making something.  To do:  change something around you, something you see or interact with every day.  Change the wallpaper on your computer, the radio station on your alarm clock, the mug you drink your coffee out of.  Exchange your ordinary item for something that makes you smile or feel good in some way whenever you notice it.

This week's 10 Minute Muse is inspired by Jill Badonsky's The Awe-Manac. She says, "I should take a moment to agree with a compliment someone has given me in the past."  I want us to take this one step further.  Give yourself a compliment, tell yourself something you appreciate about yourself, then create something that will remind you of this positive attribute when you are feeling stressed or down about anything at all.

I really like my eyes and the way I have learned to manipulate my photos to get cool effects.

Do you ever find yourself longing for you're-not-sure-what?  Wishing you were somewhere else?  Yearning for something special, out of the ordinary, different?

I used to have that happen fairly often, especially if life was hectic and stressful--something that can happen this time of year a little too much.  (Like last week on Thanksgiving when I got so tied up in the holiday I forgot to pop over here and do a 10 Minute Muse post!)

We're coming up on holiday season.  If you're in the United States, things kick off next week with Thanksgiving.

I love the holiday decorations, the twinkling lights, time with family, special foods we eat only once a year.  But like many of you, I also associate the holidays with a lot of frenetic activity and stress, and sometimes these feelings can make us dislike the holidays.
